BOB jogging strollers began in 1994 when a bicycle industry expert, Roger Malinowski, met an airline mechanic, Philip Novotny, in a California town. Philip has turned an old beach cruiser bike into a lightweight bike trailer, he name a YAK, and was producing them from a small shop on a small scale.
Roger could see the vision and knew that the product was a great item, so they teamed up and turned the YAK into a booming business by starting the company and initially naming it Beast of Burden. Due to many people not taking to the name they soon took the initials form the name and began calling the company BOB. Their trailer idea became very popular with bicycle tourists, commuters and enthusiasts because of the simple idea that made this such an innovative idea. The idea to connect the bike trailer to the rear axle of the bike ,because all bikes have one, this idea provided optimal towing performance, excellent aerodynamics, the lowest center of gravity, and was compatible with most any bike. It wasn’t until Philip and Roger began to start families of their own, that the BOB stroller we know and love today came into existence. They wanted a way to transport their children in a stroller with the high standards they had for the bike trailers they built. They came up with a lightweight stroller that you could take on runs, hiking, or take off road while being able to fold up the stroller compactly for easy transportation. They even used their own children to test the stroller prior to its introduction. Today the company is headquartered in Boise, Idaho and many of the employees ride their bikes to work, and sometimes even assist in the product testing of new stroller and trailer ideas!
This first stroller created was the BOB Sport Utility Stroller. It wasn’t long until the success of the Sport Utility Stroller had parents of multiples requesting a stroller that seated two children and this led to the introduction of the BOB Duallie in 2001. In 2003 Ironman was looking for a stroller for the world famous triathlon race and turned to BOB to create the Ironman stroller, this gave the company much visibility among active parents. In 2005, BOB introduced the swivel front wheel, complete with locking feature for rough terrain or running, which gave strollers much needed help in maneuvering through tight everyday areas, the stroller that featured this swiveling wheel was called the BOB Revolution.
Bob strollers are a must, in our opinion, for any active parent to have. It can be used as an exclusive outdoor stroller or it can be used for everyday errands in combination with your active outdoor lifestyle. The suspension on a BOB stroller is unbeatable and will truly offer a smooth ride for your child when strolling across rough terrain, walking down the sidewalk, or running at high speeds. Bob offers many accessories to outfit your stroller to fit the needs of your lifestyle.
